A Guest Post on a Wednesday Morning

Hello everybody! My name is Katerina and I’m going to be your host this Wednesday.

“What?! No myths today?” you’re probably thinking with a frown on your face. :-(

Well, you’ll have to wait for a few days and bear with me, since Myrto and Eirini asked me to do this guest post; I have to say I am very happy :))))))) and honoured.

So many things came to mind from the moment the girls gave me this opportunity to write in their amazing blog. Since I didn’t want to deviate much from what Myrto has accustomed all of us, I thought I’d try to follow her style (hard to do, so please be kind with me!) and describe a scene that has formed in my mind since I’ve first read Myrto’s fascinating entry on Zeus and Hera and seeing Eirini’s wonderful drawings.

So let’s travel to Mount Olympus, and take a look of what’s happening there this Wednesday morning (Zeus is in red and Hera is in blue):

“Heraaa… Heraaa… Where did that woman disappear to again?”

“What?! By all gods, why are you shouting like that?”

“I have been looking all over for you.”

“How come? Aren’t there any naive virgins left to go after today?”

“Oh, darling! You look so beautiful when you’re angry! Almost 3000 years have passed and you look just like the day you sheltered me to your bosom!”

“You…you…you, get out of my sight! You tricked me remember? I should have known better than to feel sorry for that rain-soaked cuckoo you had disguised yourself as.”

“That is what I love about you! Your well hidden soft side! Why do you behave so cruelly when you have such a tender heart inside?”

“Do you even have to ask? Never mind, I don’t have time to discuss all that! Hestia is in the kitchen preparing dinner for the whole family and I should go help her. Have you forgotten what day it is today?”

“Of course not! It is Wednesday. You know how anxiously I am waiting for Wednesdays these past few months! Life in the palace hasn’t been this exciting for I don’t know how long!”

“You’re right! Everybody is so excited! Just take a look outside: it is a glorious day; birds are singing, blooming flowers fill the air with an intoxicating smell and the sun, oh the sun, is shining brighter than ever! Demeter and Apollo at their best! Even Poseidon has calmed down!”

“And who do we owe all that to? Those two little spirited girls: Myrto and Eirini! Athena was, as always, very wise in bringing those two together! I was getting so tired of the same old same old. Now, I can’t wait for our Wednesday and Sunday gatherings to chitchat on their latest post!”

“The last one really gave me goosebumps! It’s like they had been sitting on the wall like flies watching and recording everything! Are you sure we don’t have a leak in the palace? Somebody must be visiting them in their dreams; I don’t know what else to think! Such a faithful narrative of that adventure we had with Hades and Persephone, remember?”

“Don’t I remember? It seems like yesterday that Hades came to me with that goofy look on his face declaring his desire to marry Persephone! But, did you notice Demeter’s reaction? Even after all these years, she still hasn’t gotten over it!”

“And it was the first time that I saw Hades so content with a depiction of him! Did you listen to him? “Finally…vindication! There is someone who doesn’t draw me as a hideous creature with no legs and jagged teeth! Very well done Eirini!”

“Eirini has done an amazing job depicting all of us! Everybody is thrilled! Finally some resemblance and color after all that red and black on pottery and plain white of statues! Not that ancient artists did a bad work, but this is a breath of fresh air! I enjoyed how she pictured you chasing me! Ha, ha, ha….”

“Stop laughing or you’d better start running! Thousands of years have passed and the entire world is still reading about your love affairs!”

“Darling, didn’t you see how Myrto is defending you? And how glorious Eirini has depicted you?”

“Now, leave the smooth talk and let me go about the preparations. I must have finished before Aphrodite comes and wants to sit down and talk. You know how anxious she is lately. Until she sees the complete narration of her son’s love story she is not going to rest.”

“What worries her is that these two girls have captured her “mother-in-law side” she always wanted to hide. At least she likes how her hair looks! Ha, ha, ha! To tell you the truth I really enjoy how Eros’s and Psyche’s love story unfolds. I think I’m going to enjoy that version better than all the previous ones!”

Seriously now, what Myrto and Eirini are offering is some of the best work I have seen regarding adaptation of the ancient Greek mythology. And we haven’t seen the “Eros & Psyche” project finished yet! They both are extremely talented and I am been objective despite the fact that I am privileged to call Myrto my friend. I haven’t met Eirini yet but by listening to Myrto talking about their projects 24/7 :-p , feels like I know her. And what better insight on an artist’s soul than his/her work! Judging simply from their posts one call tell that they are both hopelessly romantic, creatively deranged (:-p), fun loving people doing a professional job with an amateur’s prospective!

So, Myrto and Eirini thank you again for inviting me! On behalf of all your fans and followers (this is turning into a cult :-p), thank you for everything we’ve seen so far and for what you are preparing for us. We are eagerly waiting!

P.S. Writing I can manage but drawing is a completely different story. I wouldn’t dream of posting my kiddengarden-stylish pictures in here!

  1. Very smart, very funny!
The way Myrto and Eirini are involved in a daily chat of Zeus and Hera....fascinating! The accidental (?) choice of colours: Zeus is in red and Hera is in blue...funny!!! Well done guest!

    1. Thank you soooooo much dear Anna for your kind words! Since Myrto and Eirini have immerged us so beautifully, funny and creatively in the wonderful world of our mythology, we've been socialising with Gods and heroes frequently so all the above came naturally! As for red and blue Myrto deserves credit for it since she was the final editor and I would like to thank her a lot for that given this opportunity! Again thank you very much and I'll be seeing you in "comment space"! Till next time!
